What is Over 50s Life Insurance?

It’s a type of life insurance for those over the age of 50, sometimes referred to as ‘whole of life’ insurance. It lasts for as long as you live rather than a set period of time.
Over 50s life insurance is typically used to leave a small lump sum to your loved ones. This could be used towards helping financially at a difficult time, including supporting funeral costs or unpaid bills.

It's easy to apply for our Over 50's Life Insurance online and we offer guaranteed acceptance with no medical if you're aged between 50 and 80. You must be in the UK with a legal right to live there. You must consider your main home to be in the UK (which doesn't include the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or Gibraltar) and have no current intention of permanently moving elsewhere.

Our Over 50s Life Insurance is not a savings or investment plan. It will only pay out on a successful claim. If premiums aren’t paid when due, or you cancel the policy, the cover will end and you’ll get nothing back.

Your cover and premiums always stay the same

What you pay each month and the cover you choose will always stay the same. Premiums will stop after 30 years or the policy anniversary after your 90th birthday, whichever comes first, but your cover will last until the day you die. The payout could be less than what you’ve paid in premiums, depending on your premium amount and how long you live for. The cover amount is fixed so its real-life value will go down over time because of the effects of inflation.

Guaranteed payout

We’ll pay out the cover amount as a lump sum if you die for any reason after the first 12 months of having the policy, or if you die because of an accident within the first 12 months. If you die within the first 12 months due to any other reason, we'll pay a cash amount equal to the premiums already paid, but not the cover amount.

Your data

The data controllers responsible for processing your personal information are Aviva Life & Pensions UK Limited ("Aviva") as the insurer of the product and National Westminster Bank plc ("NatWest") as the distributor of the product.

Aviva uses your personal information for a number of purposes including to decide if we can offer you insurance and to generate a quote for you. This information will include personal and health data for all those to be covered. Aviva will also share some of your personal information with NatWest for their own purposes. You have certain data rights in relation to your personal information, including a right to access personal information, a right to correct inaccurate personal information and a right to erase or suspend our use of your personal information. These rights may only apply in certain circumstances and are subject to certain exemptions.

  • Choose an amount of cover or how much you want to pay each month. You can pay between £5 and £100 per month per plan or a maximum of £100 per month across all over 50s life insurance policies held with Aviva. The price you pay depends on either the premium you select, or your chosen level of cover and personal circumstances.
